„Filmverschwendung!“

Diese Revue eines Unbequemen umfasst eine Fülle selten oder viel zu lange nicht mehr gezeigter Filme von Ernst Schmidt jr. Die Reihenfolge ist dabei einer Dramaturgie geschuldet, weniger einer strengen Chronologie. Im Zentrum steht P.R.A.T.E.R., eine frühe quasi-dokumentarische Arbeit, in der bereits programmatisch die Haltung Schmidt jr.s und sein Faible für die Collage als künstlerische Praxis angelegt sind, aber auch seine Subversivität und Ironie zum Ausdruck kommen. "A Waste Of Film!"

This retrospective of a staunchly principled artist contains a wealth of rarely shown or long archived films by Ernst Schmidt jr. Their sequence follows a specific dramaturgy and less a strict chronology. At the center of the program is P.R.A.T.E.R., an early quasi-documentary work that already contains kernels of Schmidt jr.’s signature attitudes and his love of collage as an artistic practice, and also presents his knack for subversion and irony.
