As carefree as mountain air on a fresh September morning and yet inhaled with a delicate feeling of slight melancholy, Lamila's folk-pop is music that looks inward. The Viennese trio consisting of the singer-songwriter Camilla Thurner, double bass player Ines Fuchs and guitarist Alexander Hoffmann, plays carefully and yet very intimately with images from nature, poetic romanticism and the hippie era, without getting lost in clichés at any point. Instead, Lamila continue the legacy of pioneers of modern, western folk - Simon & Garfunkel, Nick Drake or Leonard Cohen were the godfathers for their sound. And yet the jazzy licks of the double bass, as well as the dreamy background choirs on this year's debut “Withered Dream” conjure up a completely unique atmosphere, whose appeal lies in the calm rather than in turmoil. Soul balm for a confusing time. (Seayou Records)
